Grand Finale Concert

We are very excited to announce our final concert in conjunction with the Hannaford Street Silver Band.  Here's an excerpt from their 2009/2010 flyer:

"Our season finale, is in fact, the grand finale of the first International Women's Brass Conference to be held in Canada hosted by Joan Watson.  An all female cast of international soloists and composers will be led by our guest conductor, Dr. Gillian MacKay."

  Janet Watson.  With a teaching degree from the University of Manitoba, a certificate in Etiquette Consulting from the Institute of Civility and a Life Coach diploma, Janet has the knowledge and training to ensure you enjoy your learning experience. She has 33 years of teaching experience, having taught all ages from Kindergarten to Seniors, with class sizes ranging from 160 students to private one-on-one sessions. Her clientele includes a number of universities across Canada, Chinook College Continuing Ed. (Calgary, AB) and Dentrix Inc. (Calgary, AB).  Janet and Angela Haweleshka are planning a very special talk for us on Thursday regarding stage presence and giving that dramatic first impression.

Trumpeter Linda Brown studied at the University of Calgary and Northwestern University with Howard Engstrom, Vincent Cichowicz and Arnold Jacobs (privately).
Since then, Linda has been playing trumpet for 25 years with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Throughout this time she has been on full time contract as Second Trumpet, Assistant Principal, as well as part-time,Third Trumpet and is presently on a year's leave of absence. Linda has also appeared as featured guest soloist with the CPO on several occasions and recorded on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Radio as soloist and with groups like Rosa Selvatica (Hans Graf), and the CPO. Along with touring with the Phantom of the Opera and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Linda has performed abroad with the Monarch Brass (IWBC 2003), the Shanghai Radio Broadcasting Orchestra and the Nyirbator Chamber Orchestra (Hungary).

As a trumpet instructor, Linda has had the privilege to present masterclasses at the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University and the Shanghai Conservatory to complement her 14 year tenure as teacher and brass ensemble coach at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta. Linda's students have
continued their studies at McGill University in Montreal, the Curtis Institute and Eastman School of Music.
