   The International Women's Brass Conference is pleased to announce the 2010 Susan Slaughter International Solo Brass Competition for trumpet, horn, tenor horn, trombone euphonium and tuba to be held during the 6th International Conference at Humber College.  Please proceed to "Registration" Page to register.

Repertoire

 

Competitors must prepare two pieces, one lyrical and one technical. 
There are two lyrical and two technical pieces listed below in each category. 
Please choose one of each to perform during the competition.

 

 

Music for the Preliminary and Grand Prize Final rounds will be the same. 
The judges may select only a portion or movement of a piece to be performed.

Eligibility Requirements

 

Eligibility to compete in any category requires meeting the following criteria:

    -- All solo competition participants must be pre-registered conference attendees. 

NEW! deadline extension to April 15, 2010

 

    -- All participants must return a completed solo competition application along with the $50 competition fee by April 15, 2010.

No applications will be accepted after this date. 

 

The Preliminary Round of the competition will be held prior to the start of the conference on the campus of Humber College on June 14 or 15th, depending upon the total number of participants.

 

 

All contestants will perform in the Preliminary Round.  The number of participants who advance to the Final Round will be determined at the discretion of the judges. 

 

 

Each round will be performed behind a screen.

Prizes

 

 

Three prizes are offered in each age category for each instrument at the conclusion of the preliminary round. 

 

First Prize = $700 U.S. plus a $60 gift certificate to use at the conference exhibits. 

 

Second Prize =  $500 U.S. plus a $60 gift certificate to use at the conference exhibits. 

 

Third Prize =  $300 U.S. plus a $60 gift certificate to use at the conference exhibits.

 

The first prize winner in each category on each instrument will advance to the Grand Prize Final Round.  These competitors (up to six) will compete for three prizes in each category.

 

Grand Prize = $1,500 U.S.

 

Second Prize = $500 U.S.

 

Third Prize = $300 U.S.

 

This round of competition will be held on the morning of June 16, 2010 and is open to the public.

An accompanist is required for all rounds of competition.  You may elect to provide your own accompanist or an IWBC accompanist can be provided for a fee of $50 for one hour of rehearsal time.  (No extra rehearsal time is available.)  You will need to arrive early to rehearse with an IWBC accompanist.  Please plan accordingly.

Categories

 

The competition is open to all student, amateur and professional women and men in the following categories:

 

Category 1:   18 and under (pre college)

 

Category 2:   28 and under

 

Category 3:   29 and over

(All age requirements are as of March 31, 2010)
